Massage, the systematic manipulation and rubbing of body tissues and muscles to relax and soothe pain, is a ancient tradition in all cultures. In ancient China, there are tortoise shell records of the practice of "Anmo" ("Compress-Glide") dating back to 3000 BC. In the "Cong Fau of Tao Tsu / Tse", the Chinese focused on a combination of herbs, exercise and massage both to cure diseases and maintain health.
The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor , is an ancient Chinese medical text that has been treated as the fundamental source for Traditional Chinese Medical practice. The work is generally dated between the late Warring States period (475-221 BCE) and the Han dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE). Forces and principles, such as Yin and Yang, Qi (Energy) and the Five Elements underpin treatment. The text introduced the ideas that we can stay or return to balance and health by understanding the laws of natural forces. Thus the principles of yin and yang, the five elements, and the environmental factors of wind, damp, hot and cold that are part of the universe equally apply equally to humans. The use or not of massage is mentioned frequently and the above principles still apply to modern Chinese Tui na massage therapy.

Am I suitable for tuina massage treatment?
Although there are some conditions where massage therapy is totally contraindicated, there are many more where massage can be given once you have cleared matters with your Doctor or once a condition is no longer in it's acute phase. An adapted Tuina massage may still have to be applied.
I can take an initial phone consultation and then e-mail a health and lifestyle questionnaire. This will outline the medical conditions to consider prior to any visit, You can ask any questions you might have about Tuina at any stage of the process.
